In a brief message, introduce yourself to your
classmates.  Let us know a little bit about your
background, your experiences (or lack there of)with
on-line education and with world cultures, your major,
your family, your hobbies, or whatever you think will
help us see the person behind the name that appears on
the screen.

I'll start.  I'm Dody Welsh-Parris, and I'm really
looking forward to working with you in this setting, and
on this topic of World Literature.

I've been teaching online classes for four years now,
teaching at Chesapeake since 1989, and started teaching
college English classes in 1981 when I was a teaching
assistant at the University of Maryland getting my
Master's in English.  I am currently working on my PhD
at UMBC and hope to be finished within the next two
years.

When I'm not online (and my husband isn't sure there's
enough time when this is true), I enjoy gardening,
biking, being on the water, reading, cooking watching
what some people tell me are weird films, and hanging
out with my friends and family.  There are never enough
hours in the day!  Summer is my favorite season,  spring
and fall do nicely as well, and I'm NOT fan of cold
weather (unless it snows enough to stop life on the
Shore as we know it while we all hibernate).

Looking forward to getting to know you in class.

Hello, my name is Rhonda Knotts and I am a full time
student here at Chesapeake College.  I have been
attending classes here since 1993 and I am graduating
with an AA in Human Services in the Spring of 2003.  I
am very excited about that and still find the idea to be
somewhat "surreal".  I hope to go on and earn a
bachelor's degree in social work, and am would love to
be a children's counselor in the future.

I own and operate my own day care out of my basement in
our home which we renovated about four years ago.  I
love working with children and it is a little hard to
imagine not doing day care, but I can see myself working
with children on a totally different level.

This is my fourth internet class, and my second with Ms.
Welsh-Parris.  Taking a course via the internet allows
me the opportunity to fit another class in my schedule
while juggling other classes and working full time. I
have had a lot of success with my classes over the
internet and I hope to be just as successful this time.

I look forward to being in this class with you and
learning about World Literature together. Good Luck !!

Hi everyone. My name is Rhodesia Jackson and I am a
student at Chesapeake College majoring in liberal arts
and Sciences. I plan to recieve my AA degree this spring
and transfer (somewhere) and major in secondary
education.  At the present time I work full-time a
Dorchester General Hospital in Cambridge as the
secertary/aide in the Rehabilitation Services
department. My job is quite a learning experience. Also
I am a single mother with two daughter age 12 and 8.
They help to keep me motivated.  This is not my first
internet course but what I have learned from prior
experience is that it takes more time than a regular
course and you need to find and make time everyday to
connect and be a part of the course. I am looking foward
to a sucessful semester and I wish you all the same.

Howdy! I'm Megan Powell and this is my second Internet
course with Ms. Welsh-Parris. I'm also taking Abnormal
Psychology online this term. I'm hoping to transfer to
Washington College after this year to study creative
writing. I'm a full time student living with my mother.
She is also going back to college so together with my
oldest sister and myself there are three college
students in our home. It should be an interesting year
at the Powell house. When I'm not doing schoolwork, I
like to read, write, draw, and play video games.

Hi everyone!  My name is Jenn Mancinelli.  I have been
attending Chesapeake for almost 3 years now (I started
just going part time).  Mostly everything that I do
revolves around school and work.  (I love my summers) -
but I know it will pay off one day. I have taken one
other online class and enjoyed the convience of it
greatly.  I am currently taking 2 this semester in hopes
to spend my time wisely. I love traveling and I love
literature - I just never seem to have time for it  - so
I figured if I kept taking classes on it it would force
me to enjoy it a little more.

Hello, all. I am the always-late, yet frequently great
Zach Bowman.   I am a total net junky and this is my 6th
net class, my 3rd with Professor Welsh-Parris (that is
if you want to include the first one that I attempted
and subsequently dropped.) Right now I am on my 5th
major, I think, and I am intensely considering changing
back to the thing I first started going to college for,
graphic design.  I still live with my parents. My
indecisiveness has lead to it taking me 3 years to get a
2 year degree even though I’ve been a full time student
the whole time.  I’ve never left the country (being the
USA) yet I know an awful lot of foreigners.  I work for
a non-profit agency as a sort of “low rent” counselor
and I enjoy meditating, art of all kinds especially when
the value of it is questionable, and Aikido. Should the
urge hit you I have an email at
realbigmonkey@hotmail.com or can be instant messaged
over aol with the screen name Jaskler. Anyways it is
nice to meet you all!

Hi everybody, my name is Robin Keen and I am from
Chestertown.  I attend Wesley College in Dover Delaware
in which I commute.  My major is elemtary education and
I am currently enrolled in five other classes at Wesley.
I took a internet course last year with Dody and loved
it.  I managed to take time to take other courses at
Wesley as well as take her internet course.  Sometimes
in college, your courses are not always scheduled back
to back so in this case last year I spent the gaps
between my classes to log on to this class or do
homework.  Even if I only had 15 minutes to log on I
would still try to log on to see if anyone new had
replied to the discussion.

Hello to all my fellow classmates!   My name is Bryan
States (go figure..you did click on that name).  Last
semester I had ENG 102 with Dody Parris (it's something
in the name..I love saying that :) I have been attending
chesapeake for a little over two years thus far and plan
to transfer to Salisbury State after completing this
semester.  My job still remains at Black and Decker (as
it did for the last three years) but I  assume that will
change in time.  Presently, I have three online and two
on-campus courses.  I love having such convenient
learning.

I cant say I have too much experience with other
cultures because I have never left the United States
(although some will argue that the eastern shore is a
country of it's own).

Well, I will talk to everyone very shortly.  Enjoy the
class!
